Who has put the manual climate control in to a CQ?

Re: Awesome! Any tips? How bad is the wiring? When I pulled it from my 90
Well, I've yet to prove it's functional so far. Still have a lot of the wiring left to do. Battery is going to the trunk so I'm wiring that up now. Still have to connect everything to the fuse box, plus wiring for gauges, ignition, ems, pretty much everything engine side of the firewall. Will be a while longer till its up and running.
Basically taken manual heater box and controls, plus wiring harness from a 93. AC is gone so removed all the sensors and associated ACC wiring harness. That was a pita! Other than that the manual CC is obviously less complicated than auto, and if you have the wiring harness makes it much easier. Oh and the bentley diagrams come in handy aswell.

Already did it in my '90 20v. I got the manual climate heater box from a 4 cyl b3.
Any b3 manual climate will swap righ over though. Not sure on the B4 swapability though. I disconnected the A/C. This made it even easier to swap. There are two main harnesses. The round plug is for the blower motor/illumination, and recirc and the larger square red plug is used for the A/C. If you want A/C you'll have to get the wiring A/C wiring from the manual climate donor car. I also removed the evaporator in the climate box and installed a blockoff plate I made for the firewall.

You would need to swap the AC compressor, too.
B4 AC compressors have a speed sensor which B3s lack. The computer shuts down the AC without a speed signal that jives with the engine RPM signal. I've casually looked at this swap and haven't yet found a reasonable workaround for this problem. I'm sure I could figure something out, but I don't care so much.
It's been done, but only as part of a complete engine swap AFAIK.
You can just delete the AC, of course, but that kind of defeats the purpose of updating the climate control controls, IMHO.
