Default to whomever worked on my car previously... antiseize does not equal loctite!

Duhh... no wonder my subframe kept shifting and throwing the steering way off.... removed the subframe bolts, all of them were COVERED in anti-sieze... and whoever'd had them out, had just reused them (NEVER reuse subframe bolts... they'll break... trust me).

So, cleaned out the captive nuts with brake cleaner, and put in some new bolts. Even torqued the suckers!

Oh... and i really need to double-check torques when I install balljoints... seems they were a tad loose when I reinstalled them (car hasn't had an alignment yet), and after my spririted drive tonight, both were at full-extension.

Default My 90 had the same prob. with the balljoints repeatedly loosening up

and the last time I went under to retighten them, the bolts sheared off at 80 ft.lbs (Driver Side) I went to loosen on on the pass side and it sheared too(no idea of the torque there, but I was getting clunking(when braking/accelerating from *I think* the loose balljoints.) it was more the nut rusting to the bolt...

Default Sounds like someone didn't know how to use antisieze.....

both antiseize & loctite need to be used in severe moderation. You should barely be able to tell it was used by looking at it. I wouldn't use it on such critical bolts as a subframe bolt, crank bolt, etc., but for suspension parts that typically get frozen up with corrosion, hell yea. Oh, and something about 10+ year old cars, when I reassemble them, I have an antisieze applicator bottle I use on almost everything, and a can of kroil penetrating oil to take them apart, which gets sprayed on almost everything before I even touch another tool. ;-)
