why doesn't Audi put diff locks on their newer cars?
#4
Several reasons...
diff locks are either on or off... no transfer of power, just a complete 50/50 split. It also requires user input to control the older systems. Lockers also cause the drivetrain systems to load up, putting wear on a lot of stuff.
Most people aren't knowledgeable enough about their cars or vehicle handling to know how to drive with locking diffs. Also, comparing locked to open, or various types of LSD, the lock can be more difficult to drive.
Why doesn't Subaru or Mitsu use locking diffs on their rally cars??
