Hi everybody i need your help please..
my audi A1 diesel had filter light on so took it for a run on the motorway to clear it out, as i was changing down gears i noticed a very lot of black smoke from exhaust ! the car lost power and the rev counter went to maximum whilst still in neutral so i had to turn the engine off to stop the revs.. i got the car to a garage by recovery and mechanic checked the oil dipstick which was about two inches higher than original level, today the mechanic changed the oil and got the car started but sounded very weak !
The mechanic isnt sure if the engines damaged or the turbo and i dont want to buy a new turbo if its not the problem .. Any ideas would be appreciated.. many thanks

Sounds like diesel runaway, Gary. Why was the oil over-filled?

the oil wasnt over filled it was at correct level before incident but was 2 inches higher after the incident

Gary, the runaway condition often results in a destroyed TDI engine. You've got to have someone do a compression check on all cylinders and record the values - - they're likely to be low after the incident. You need to look for a lot of oil inside the intercooler. This problem can be caused by oil leaking at the the turbo.

How many miles has this car done? How long did the runaway go on for? Did the engine turn off when you turned the key off?
