Default 15" alloys to 17" alloys

Im looking at replacing the ugly 15" alloys on my A3 1.9TDI with some nice 17" S3 alloys (buying from a freind). I dont think I have the sport suspension. Any ideas if I will need to modify my suspension to take these wheels? I dont want to damage anything.

They will fit staight on without any problems or modifications. The only problem you will have is that it will appear to make the car look as if it is sitting highter on the suspension. Probably an optical illusion, but you will feel you need to lower the suspension to make it look good LOL

Any idea's on how much this will cost to lower the springs? Not sure about doing this as there are many speed bumps where I live...will this cause problems.

Also any ideas if the spare 17" will fit in my boot in place of the 15"

Thanks for all the help much appreciated.

Default Tyre in the boot

New 17" wheel should go into the boot space no probs Miki00. Although the wheel itself has a larger diameter, the profile (or 'height' from the rim of the wheel) of the tyre is smaller by a relative ratio.

If the wheel sizes on the different cars varied between the 15 to the 17", Audi would have to build cars with different sized spare wheel wells.
Hmmm, can't see them wanting to spend any extra money where it isn't necessary!!!
Ha ha!

Be sure to post pics of before and after when you get it done!!

Thanks Si

The only problem I have now is that there are only 4 alloys??. What can I use as a spare wheel? Will I have to buy an extra 17" thats exactly the same as whats on? or can I just buy a 17" cheap rim and put a tire on it...incase of an emergancy. I dont like the idea of driving around with no spare in the boot!!!

Thanks for the help guys

I still have a 15" alloy in the boot of my car despite having moved on to 17" Alloys myself. As said, the rolling radius of the wheel is the same so it would be ok until I got the puncture sorted which I can do myself ;-)
