2.0T FSI Coolant Flange Recall
Some time ago I posted a thread regarding my adventures with the replacememt of the coolant flange on my 2006 Audi A3 2.0T with FSI. I won't go into detail about that again, but want you all to know that there is now a RECALL! Seems there is an issue here and perhaps this forum helped to get this part recalled.
AUDI says I will be reimbursed for the $552. it cost to replace both the flange and the temperature sensor....even so I traded it in...w/86,000 miles, and now the dealer is stuck with the faulty ECU which doesn't understand seatbelts and calender on the display reading in euro not US, but all else is US. Great car, just had too many things due ($10,000 worth with the ECU, 90,000 major service with timing belt etc. and eventual brakes which are still original and fine by the way.)
So the new car is a 2007 A3 S-line 3.2...hope to go the 200,000 or more Audi/VW is famous for.
GET YOUR CAR IN FOR THE RECALL BEFORE YOU FIND IT ONE DAY IN THE PARKING LOT WITHOUT COOLANT AS I DID!
Happy motoring!

Re: is there a recall number?
The dealer only gave me the Campaigne info he had,
There are Campaign /Actions
I5 for I5/19E3 RVU.REPL. coolant Flange Oring
and also
I3 FSI/TFSI ECM REFLASH
This info was faxed to dealers 05-22-07 at 12:44 EDT
They claim to have tried to reflash my ECU and it did not work...no seatbelt light and date format cannot be changed, now reads 01-06-2007 instead of 06/01/2007 (dashes and slashes correct to reading)

Re: is there a recall number?
Oh and by the way, I kept the original part and the part shows only signs of weight on the connection, no cracking. They replaced entire part, not just the o-ring. Make sure you get the whole deal. VW/AUDI uses the same parts for all 2.0's and they attach the vacuum for the brakes through the flange causing excess weight on the connection. Black plastic will be the death of all cars! Interesting note! Lost my brakes several times due to the vacuum hose being misaligned with the connection. Dealer fix. Not good!

It's not a recall--it's an RVU--Required Vehicle Update.

A recall is for potential safety and catastrophic failure repairs. The manufacturer is required to mail a notice to owners advising them to bring the car in for service.
This is just an RVU--it's an update that needs to be made the next time a vehicle is brought in for service.

Thanks Mike, I did notice that they are looking for vehicle to be within the warranty period, but my understanding is that they were going to cover mine even beyond the warranty (I had about 78,000 on the car. I am going to check that again with AUDI. Just because I drive outrageous miles I don't think I should be penalized, car was still only 1-1/2 years old!
Thanks again!

Re: nevermind! Dealer said my VIN is not affected by the RVU. thanks for the warning though
Just a heads up, it isn't the o-ring that is the issue. They put so many hoses on the flange (which is a pretty good size part), that it makes the connections bend down and cause the o-ring to leak. If you have ever run your car on a cold day and had a weak brake pedal the first time you try to stop, make them replace it. You are loosing vacuum! That is how mine started, finished when all the coolant just poured out while it was sitting in a parking lot on a cold day.
