2011 A3. Are they reliable.
Hi. I had couple of A6 station wagons and pretty happy with them on the long run (i.e. they are maintainable till 200K and 14y/o).
Now I need to by next car for my wife to drive in the city. She was asking about A3 and I would look at something like 2011 A3. So the obvious question: are they reliable? What is math expectation of lifespan and the mileage?
I am not big fan of turbos. Does it mean I have to go for 3.2L or people are generally happy with 2.0L turbo?
Another question: given lighter car and (in my opinion) oversized 17" rims, will I have problems with potholes?

thanks.
I wanted to figure out the longevity and the higher mileage distribution and took a bit of a quantitative approach. I collected info on all cars for sale from one of the autotrader and graphed them by year and mileage. Then I did the same for a "highest reliability" brand - Subaru. Surprisingly the distributions looked pretty similar with some cars driving into 200,000 mileage range.

I work part time as a driver for a large Audi dealer. Like many cars, if you want to do the maintenance, the car is likely to easily last 200k. Audi maintenance is expensive but it is actually less than Subaru as we owned several of them as well. If you could find a reasonably low mileage 2008 A3 3.2 Quattro you would have a winner.
