A3 2001 Audio Setup, Help Please
Hi,
Get my new A3 next week and need to know about the audio set up in the car. If anyone can answer the following I'd be greatful!
1. I have heard that there is a seperate amp for the rear spreakers, is this true?
2. Is there a seperate sub woofer in the car?
3. Does a normal stereo fit nicely in the dash?
4. I need to get a cable for my CD and amp from the front to the rear of the car, is this a problem?
5. If I want to use the rear speakers in the Audi do I need to put new cables in from the head unit?
6. Is there a space in the boot where my pioneer 12 disk will go?
Regards,
Carl

1. Yes, it's true.
2. No.
3. It fits OK.
4. It can be a problem if you don't know how to remove things (covers) in the car. It's not so easy.
5. Yes, if the rear speakers are not allready present.
6. I don't know. It depends on the size of your pioneer 12 disk.

Sebastian

1. I have heard that there is a seperate amp for the rear spreakers, is this true?
Yes, located in the right rear door panel on my 2000 model UK car
2. Is there a seperate sub woofer in the car?
Yes there is, in the left hand boot apperture, single speaker for non bose, double on the bose setup (again varies with market, but all UK models have them)
3. Does a normal stereo fit nicely in the dash?
Yes, you buy 2 spacers from a hifi store as the stock radio is wider than normal units. If you have the larger double din symphony system you require a different kit - available from autoleads(.com) or something.
4. I need to get a cable for my CD and amp from the front to the rear of the car, is this a problem?
No, if you run it down the left hand side in a 3 door car, the door sills lift easily and in the rear the panel below the window can be eased out slightly to allow you to squeeze the cable in.
5. If I want to use the rear speakers in the Audi do I need to put new cables in from the head unit?
No, so long as your new head unit has line level outputs, you can buy an adaptor lead.
6. Is there a space in the boot where my pioneer 12 disk will go?
No, there is space for a 6 disc changer above the OEM subwoofer, but a twelve will not fit in without some, erm, modification
