Absolutely no surprise. And what would they do with an almost new A3 when they have the GTi to compare it side by side? Maybe they can flip somebody into the A3 if they don't have enough GTIs, but then pricing needs to compete with a used GTI, because the VW dealer neither knows nor cares about what extra features make your A3 unique from the GTI.

Pick an upopular brand with a weak model line and see how they step up to the plate on trades. Those folks will want your business.
