I've caught wind from a rather reliable source of mine that Audi is either going to, or might be, re-entering the World Rally Championship with a ramped up version of the S3 after it's official release.

Anyone have any news articles or pertainant info on this?

Seems like the company will be sticking with DTM and meebe something like GT/endurance racing <i>if</i> the company had an appropriate [read: mid-engined] production car that could serve as a base. Looks like they'll leave WRC to Skoda.

Or possibly VW.

VW? Perhaps with the R36 (not a typo) I've been hearing about?

but it sure does makes sense to get into WRC, I never understood why VW wasn't in all this time. Also didn't understand why Toyota dumps all those mega-millions into F1 and not in WRC, where at least the cars vaguely resemble production models.
