back to wheels: sportec wheels with A3 fitment
i know that stasis posted a while back about a custom set with 50mm offset.
i went to sportec.ch and saw that there are two wheels that are listed for A3 fitment:
18x8.5 42mm offset
19x8.5 42mm offset
this is gonna sound like a noob question:
i have seen many pics of two door A3s as well as S3s with sportec wheels. is the offset the same as that of U.S. spec A3s?
S3 with 19x8.5 wheels:

i only found 1 pic of a 4-door A3 with 18s:

i had 19x8.5 sportec wheels on my B5 S4. i bought them from a friend who had them on a B6 A4. i know the offset are very different but the wheels looked great on both cars. i think it looks great on every audi and porsche i have seen them on.
so, anyone else considering these wheels?
i know that there are a couple of AW sponsors who can get these wheels. i am looking into confirming proper fitment on the U.S. A3s.
also, apparently there is a claim that there are "real" sportec wheels and others that carry the sportec name (with centercaps that have "sportec design" on them as opposed to just "sportec"). i had heard that there was going to be a change in the importers of the wheel. again, not confirmed but i am looking into that as well.
and it seems that the traditional anthracite finish is no longer available. i have only seen bright silver and DMC.

Couple things
18X8.5 et42 won't work. Other tuner type companies that make 8.5 inch wheels for our car (MTM for sure and at least one or 2 others) all use et50. 42 would rub for sure. Maybe contact sportec directly and see if they have fitment not listed online that works...they are damn nice wheels.
It's hard to tell because it's blurry...but the sportback pic looks to me like it has fake sportecs...or else photoshopped in. The rears are way to tucked and narrow to be an 8.5 inch rim...maybe 8...possibly 7.5..they look really skinny.

What would you recommend for 255s? Do you know the OEM offset?
Wife said NO to RS4, and I agree. Only other Audi that can be had w/o sunroof is the A3. So it is down to a new A3 (S3 would have solved this dilemma for me) or used S4 Avant w/o sunroof. (Canadion OK, so keep an eye out for me!)
235s are a no brainer on the A3. But 255s are possible, so I may be looking for right wheels to pull this off.
Thinking Ibis or Red, S-Line definitely!

Cool! I'd go new A3 over used S4 (you were thinking B6? or7?)
Altho you have the "skills" to do your own repairs so the S4 isn't so scary.
Stock wheels (17's) are 17x7.5et 56. Some may be et54. To do 255's is going to be trial and error unless you can find someone with the stasis kit who will let you know what they use...regardless it will have to be a custom made wheel to have the proper offset

Don't be mistaken... I do not enjoy working on cars. nor do I have the time.
I am thinking B6 OR B7 whatever I can find w/o sunroof. Why would you go A3?
I would immediately go Stage II - high flow cat or no cat and software, suspension and Brembos. The rest... not so clear.

Here's a pic of an MK5 off their site

Mainly because I couldn't afford the maintenace on a used S4.
So will this be your daily driver and you'll keep the B5 for the track? If so...I do prefer the B6/7 S4...I like the extra size/space in the back and for various other reasons would prefer it over the A3...lot's of pros and cons tho in comparing the 2.

Daily driver, maybe one track event per year just to stretch its legs.
S4 stays, too much invested. It will be mostly my work commuter, and fuel efficieny and maintenance will make a difference. Warranty will also be nice to have, or whatever will be left of it after I chip it. But if the KO3 blows - KO4 goes in. So, that would not be horrible.
I am leaning towards it. Though I also drove the 335i, and that was quick! But no 335i Wagon in US. Need to check in Canada - maybe I can get an used one.
