Default Clicking sound when car idles down

I am looking to buy a 2007 a3 sport, but when i took it for a test drive i noticed that after 3 minutes of driving, a faint clicking noise started as I would idle down to a stop. It seamed like it was comming the passenger side inside the dash or under the hood but I couldn't tell.
The car salesman said this sounded like something plastic was hitting. The noise got louder by the time we returned to dealership. If I excelerated and drove the noise went away. It only happend when I was comming to a stop.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Dude! I have that sound! It almost sounds like it's coming from behind the radio inside the dash. It also happens stopped at a traffic light. The click is a "soft" (rather than sharp) click and normally happens in pairs about 0.5 seconds or so apart for the pair and then maybe 10/15 seconds later, another pair of clicks. Eventually it goes away. Could it be solenoids - perhaps that are sticking? I don't get any adverse performance though.

Does this describe what you experience?

I have an '06 2.0t dsg. I asked the dealer about it. They just shrugged their shoulders - they have no idea.

Could be the fuel line rattle that is fairly well known... I think I have this on my car as well, sounds like it is coming from behind my glove box; I am going in for service soon and hopefully they can take care of it then. I think there is a tech service bulletin out for it.

Default Clicking noise

Yes, that describes the sound. It is very faint about .5 or 1 second apart, sounds more like tapping opposed to a sharp clicking noise. But the longer the car was running it became slightly louder. If the heat or air was blasting you could barely hear it, but when I turned all noise off it was more aparent. My father wants to bring a friend to see the car and take a look-see. I will update you if that happens.

If either of you get serviced, please let me know what the outcome is. Thanks kindly!

The sound I hear happens at just above idle speed, about the range the engine is running at on a cold start up. For me it sounds more like a slight rattle that comes from in the area of the passenger wheel well.

But I've never heard it get louder at all, so I cant help but wonder if you're experiencing something else.

Default Had this problem, too...

and the dealer couldn't fix it. I asked about the TSB for fuel-line rattle, and they said it doesn't apply to my 2007 car. Not believing them, I attempted the fix (http://oooo-a3.blogspot.com/2006/01/...attle-fix.html).

Tore off the plastic panels and found that Audi must have addressed this; my underside didn't like OOOO-A3's underside.

If anyone gets resolution, post it here. Thanks.

I started hearing it too. (2006 2.0t manual).

I assumed it was something opening and closing as part of the HVAC.

Here is a TSB that seems relevant.

I took my A3 by the dealership the other day for an oil change and also to try and fix this noise.

Notes from the work order:

"cust states there is a rattle noise from behind glove box. verified, checked for tsbs found tsb #2012395/6 for rattle noise. Followed tsb and installed insulators on black fuel line under body. removed underbody cover and foam, installed insulators and verified noise is no longer present. all operating as designed at this time"

The service rep said that it was clips that they installed and that this was the first of these done at the dealership. Had to order parts and wait a few days between initial checkout and getting the work done. I haven't driven the car enough yet to be SURE the noise is gone for good, but I haven't heard it come back yet. Very good experience at the dealership.

I had this issue within the first month of buying my 2008 A3. It was a pain in the butt, but finally got the shop foreman to baby-sit my A3 for a day or two to find the problem.

The resolution to the problem was to check the fuel lines as mentioned above and wrap the a/c evap pipes. Both are problems but my vehicles noise was due to rattling a/c evap pipes.

Replace the PCV valve. I've had similar problems with a Saturn, I even had to replace a whole motor because it consumed too much oil. I discovered that the new engine was doing the same thing. After replacing the PCV, everything was back to normal. I hope this helps.
