Considering a K & N...........
#21
I've had similar experience - lost 2 MAFs on K&N equipped cars, and ...
I've never had one die on a paper filter car (maybe 10 others with Motronic). Not conclusive, but I've had enough.

Here's a study done on Duramax diesels. Take from it what you will.
The bottom line is that performance gains from a drop-in K&N air filter are minimal, if there are any at all. Why risk even the possibility of allowing more dirt into your engine for such small gains?
K&N got my business once, but they're unlikely to ever get it again as long as they stay with their oiled cotton approach to air filtration.

http://home.stny.rr.com/jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm

How would you think something could flow more other than
by letting more everything through?
IMO the performance difference for a street driven car is not worth the hassle and potential for damage with any of the self-service filters.
