the new Passat and EOS use a wider and longer version of the same platform found in our cars. However, since those cars can be considerably heavier (especially VR6 4Motion Passat), they come with heavier duty brakes.
Can some of our parts speclialists confirm that this may be a quick and easy upgrade for our A3s?

I'd be interested in a "near OEM" brake option
Has anybody here tried any aftermarket pads (Hawk, et al) on their A3?
I do find the brakes a little lacking, though I have my winter tires fitted right now which obviously doesn't help the cause. My old BMW M Coupe had superb brakes, essentially same as an M3 only w/ less mass to stop.

Can you get into the ABS? If yes larger calipers/rotors won't help you stop any faster.
Are the A3 brakes fading? If not, larger calipers and rotors won't do nearly as much as upgrading other areas first.
Big brakes are more for show on a street driven car.
