Default Mazda3 hot hatch write-up. Obviously edmunds feels under the gun to say nice things

in order to get cars to test in the future, so I'm not sure how much weight to attach to this review, but it's interesting.

Wonder if we'll lose more people from the A3 camp or GTI camp?<ul><li><a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=116119#1">klik</a></li></ul>

Default I looked at Mazda when i was buying, Then I saw the A3 and fell in love.

The car just didn't feel like it would last long after its warranty. I don't know what it was, but I didn't trust the car. It looked good and was priced under what I wanted to pay, but it lacked something that made it feel solid.

I wonder if Mazda overstated the power in this one like they usually do.

Default I'll mark it so if you really think so. It is a competitor to the A3 though... and the comparos

are bound to come up.

The noise and slightly tinny feel is what turned me away from the Mazda3.

Default If I was just buying by the specs and numbers, the Mazda would win...

no contest. Problem is, its exteme fugliness, ricey interior, and general econocar construction would depress me everytime I got near it; I'd quicly forget the several grand I saved. The A3 is handsome, well-built, and satisfying to drive. What's that worth?
I remember selling my '84 911 Carrera to buy a Mazda RX7 Turbo, after I read a glowing Car and Driver review comparing the cars. Did I ever regret that!
This Mazda may prove a good thing; if it increases sales and awareness of the small U.S. sporthatch market, we'll find more buyers looking upscale. Maybe Audi will be motivated enough to develop, price, and market the A3 more agressively. Perhaps we'll finally see that 270hp, 4cyl, 5 door Quattro S3.

Default I just sold my Mazda3.... For the $$ it's a hard car to beat...the handling

is spot on. After awhile the styling and interior bugged me. I still think its a great car...I was just ready for something different.

In this price range I think you would be challenged to find something that handled as well and had the utility of a hatchbk.

Default IMO-the only hatchback car that would compete with A3 is BMW 1-Series.

mazda has no chance with its econocar image...

Default I remember when the Mazda 6 came out in Japan...

...all the journalists and reviewers in NA were gushing over it. When the real ones started showing up in the US, response was much more subdued, with several voicing disappointment. History does have a way of repeating itself...
