Performance tires??

Depends what qualities you are looking for. Given that the A3 has a pretty firm ride already,
I'd avoid some tires with really stiff sidewalls unless you drive on smooth roads and/or visit the track often.
I've been using the Toyo T1S and T1R. The R has a stiffer shoulder and sidewall but same compound. Very progressive break-away and reasonably chatty regarding road surface.
If you want hard core, Michelin Pilot Sports are the way to go. On the harsh side when it comes to ride and noise, but they will make the car feel like a go-kart.
For a good quiet rainy weather tire that isn't perhaps the sportiest (gives up grip a bit early), the Dunlop SP9000 series is nice.

thanks for the feedback April.
we went with the Michelin Pilots. will see how i like em'. we had conti sports on our 528iT. decent tire but short tread life.

Had those on the WRX for a summer when it would rain out you were god with those tires on until you had half tread life then look out because you would throw it into a corner in the rain, and you would see god!!! Over all a very good tire but they did not last that long and a bit pricey. Could of been my driving habits.
