Default Stock 2006 A3 Base Carrier Bars

Does anyone know if either the Yakima or Thule bike racks are compatible with the A3 Base Carrier Mounts?

I called both Yakima and Thule and they don't anticipate making base carrier for the A3 until November. Ugh!

I am having Yakima Q towers (48in bars) put on my A3 tomorrow. My local rack shop (Rocky Mounts) has already done the same on at least one other A3 and the fit is excellent. I'll let you know what the exact parts list if you like.

Hey Boulder,

That would be great. I was actually considering picking up the Audi A3 base mounts but then I don't quite know if the Yakima stuff will fit on it. Any clue?

Yeah, if you can send me that parts list and what you paid, I'll be glad to send my business to Rocky Mounts. Thanks again.

I had mine mounted a couple of days ago and it looks/works great. Here is the setup I got: Q towers/locks,(?) clips, 48in bars and 2 Rocky Mount Lariet fork mount bike trays/locks. Total for everything with tax was $400. They installed on the spot for free, but setting it up yourself shouldn't be too difficult. I believe just the Yakima Towers/bars/clips/locks (without bike trays) was $252 before tax. I think I read in another forum that Yakima might have clips for the A3 in November. Rocky Mounts told me when they do come out they will swap out the new clips for the ones they used on this setup, but I doubt there will be much difference - the ones they used seem to fit fine. One thing I noticed - quite a bit of wind noise (can't really use the sunroof with a bike on top), so I am getting a fairing (the widest one they make) to cut down noise. I won't have it for a while (I'll be out of town), but I'll let you know how it works/looks. If you do call Rocky Mounts, either Mike or Bobby know the A3 setup.

Hey Boulder,

Took your advice. I spoke to Bobby today. He's hooking me up with everything I need my A3. Everything including shipping (with fairing as well) for $408.00. I'm ordering in the next few days. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for the lead!!
