Swapping XM for Sirius
#2
there can be complications
the swap physically is easy.
however
if you are having the dealer take back the XM for a sirius unit they can get screwed if you've activated your unit. Sirius or XM wont de-activate a unit without the permission of the person that registered the unit. I've had to make this phone call before because I've been stuck with units that I cant sell because customers didnt bother to de-activate them... and nobody told us that a unit must be de-activated before we can take it back as a trade for the other provider.
Why?
because providers wont activate a unit for you that is registered as being owned by somebody else. So the parts department can get stuck with a unit that nobody can activate and if they dont remember who they took it back from (goes back on shelf with other units looking just like it) then they are basically screwed out of a $400 tuner which is a paperweight without a service provider that is willing to activate it.

Re: Swapping XM for Sirius
It is easy. If you have XM and want Sirius (or visa-versa), purchase the other tuner (specific for your vehicle, with navigation or non-nav) and replace the satellite tuner in the trunk with the new unit. Plug and play. I'm *positive* that afterwards you'll be able to sell your old unit to someone else that has no satellite (like myself) and wants to upgrade. Here's a link to some dood who added satellite to his non-sat A3.

http://spaces.msn.com/members/mcdonst1/blog/</a

I did the opposite...swapped Sirius for XM
Actually my pre-installed Sirius tuner was bad and instead of having the dealer replace it with another Sirius tuner I asked them to install an XM instead. They were cool about it and it was no problem.

I installed aftermarket Sirius. I used the pre-wired antenna. No problem. Whether you run Sir/XM everything is in place.

As someone mentioned above, don't pay for both, and let the dealer take one back. You should pay for XM on your deal. And let them take the XM out of the car and put in the SIRIUS box. No change in price, nothing for you out of pocket. If they insist you buy both that is crazy, but at least you can sell XM to a STERN-hater here.
