Tunning A3 150 hp
Hi A3fans,
My name is Adler (looks funny for germanies) , I live in Brazil. Two weeks ago I bought A3T 150Hp, this car is really great but I think that could get more for this engine. is Chipping enough ? What's the best chip brand ? Chipping to 192 hp could cause any damage to the durability of the engine ? how about warranty ?
Thanks in advance,
Adler Oliveira

Re: Tuning A3 150 hp
1-you definitely can get more, and easily, from this engine. Its very understressed at 150
2-chipping will give you a huge increase in performance. Other things like exhaust/intake mods will give minor increases (and be expensive and possibly noisy). K&N filter probably a waste of money on this engine. Most chips will put you in the 187-195hp range.
3-best brand? - you'll get lots of opinions on this and there are lots out there. MTM, AMD, Oettinger all have huge reputations and you would be safe. In New Zealand the only one available from the dealer and with full warranty retention is the MTM so I would have to say that speaks volumes. This has been the case for nearly 5 years, so they'd have pulled the plug by now if there were any serious issues.
4-durability. I think I've answered that already but FWIW I had the 1.8T in my A4 for over 4 years and it was driven hard for 80000kms - no problems.
What would I do? MTM chip and Remus rear exhaust box (Looks fantastic, beautifully constructed, deeper note but not loud, worth 5-10hp).
Oh, and I almost forgot, don't go over 200hp without All Wheel Drive!
(removes tongue from cheek)
Good luck and happy tuning
Greg Spark
