I agree. I ordered an S3 last week and gas mileage played a factor. I didn't buy the last Golf R as it only got 27 mpg on the highway... The S3 met my level of acceptable gas mileage with 31 mpg on the highway. I like the power and its fun, but I don't want a gas hog either...

Default Gas Mileage

I agree, the S3 is about awesome performance. The gas mileage is important to me but secondary. Our other car is an A3 TDI. That one is for fuel mileage.

Gas Mileage did factor into my decision. If the S3 got the same fuel mileage as my last car (2008 EVO X MR), then I would not have ordered an S3. I would have looked elsewhere.

Also remember, don't trust that "always optimistic" trip computer generated mileage. Do that calculation yourself. I find that my Q5 says it gets 2mpg better then it really does and the A4 is about 1.5 mpg better. They still get great mileage, just not as great as the trip computer says.

Yeah, my real math was better than the computer.

By the way, at 700 miles now, getting 25.4 with the same drive (according to the computer).

Smiles/gallon is the goal... ;}

But just by chance are you driving in S a great deal?

I get 8-11 MPG more just by using D.

When I am driving in D mode, I usually get between 25~30MPG (60% highway tho.) But When I switch to dynamic mode,,, less then 20mpg,,, but Its so fun to drive in dynamic mode. WORTH IT!

Yes, it is, but what I do now is just toss it in D until I know I can run around and really play. (Ya can't just pass everyone over a double yellow)

But by far, the worst mileage I get is when I'm using M, because then I'm really burning fuel on purpose.

I just wish I could skip gears like a stick... And reprogram S to get down into 1st when coming to a stop and the RPM falls to a certain level.... I hate it when I punch and it is in 2 then lags.

Also, my MPG improved dramatically after I was done pushing the car as hard as I dare to so that I could get used to how it feels. I'm doomed to eventually own something starting with an R or tuning an S now. It is only a matter of time.

I've found, after 5000 miles, that I never use S, I'm either in D or Paddling.
