Broken shift **** red ring?
Broken red ring on shift **** - Is this a common issue on the facelift S3? Mine has broken in less than 7 months since I got the car. For those curious as what I'm talking about, here's a video I found =>

The "problems" some of you guys come up with blow my mind...take 2 dots of super glue and fix it....does this really require forum intervention? I love my Audi but so far have not been impressed by the crowd...and the ***** moderator on this forum will delete this post...but I don't care because this is the kind of topic that comes up more than anything on this forum, useless banter whining about the smallest things. Apparently some of your Man Cards where never issued..

I have no desire to get into a joust with M4D about the worthiness of this topic. Having said that, when I talked to my local service department about this little ring breaking they assured me that it is a warranty item and should be addressed. They proceeded to order the replacement part and just called to book the service appointment. I must say I was surprised when the service rep informed me that the entire shift **** would be replaced. Hopefully once the technician actually gets to work on this they can simply replace the ring - while no cost significance to me, it does seem like an excessive solution for such a minor issue which appears to me as just cosmetic.

I know I can just put a dab of glue and called it the day, but I hate seeing a cracked line on it in an otherwise pristine interior. Plus, why would I not make use of a warrantied item?

Had my car to the shop and they did indeed replace the whole gear shift **** assembly. I commented about this being excessive but the service representative assured me that the ring should not break and that I should not be troubled with the extent of the replacement. He also said that there could be other problems if the space where the ring sits is empty for too long with use. Sounded like the shift **** could have some excessive vertical movement which could cause problems over time.

Red knob is out of car, black A4 knob is in. I'm entertaining ideas for destruction of the red knob.
