Default Front A3 grille -- lower plastic inserts

Yesterday I'm driving along the freeway, minding my own business, when the car in front of me kicks up a big sheet of plywood. Where does it go? Right into the front of my car.

Surprisingly, the damage seemed minimal. It knocked my parking sensors out of the grille, so they were just hanging by the cables (need to test to make sure they're still working well). Popped off the towing screw cover, and bent the hell out of my front plate, but aside from that, not too bad.

The plastic inserts on the lower part of the grille (where fog lamps would go if we had some), however, got partially popped out on both sides. For the life of me, I can't pull them off completely nor can I get them to fit snugly back in. Assuming there isn't internal damage I'm not seeing, does anyone know how to properly remove those so I can inspect it?

Thanks in advance!

I would probably suggest removing the bumper cover. I think they are installed from the back, not the front... Just a guess...
