Default How hot does your RS3 run when driving?

My RS3 runs 204F to around 214F. Seems high to me but the gauge reads dead center like its normal.
drove in rain the other day and sitting at stop light theres steam coming out the front gill. Never seen a car do that.
just curious. My other car runs around 189F and will heat up to 202F if stopped in traffic.

Yep, for the oil temperature that's normal. That's around 100C (212F). My RS5 gets that hot, too. Hotter oil is one mitigation that Audi is employing to reduce carbon buildup.

Just noticed that the owners manual mentions that steam is normal. See images below from page 324 of the manual. I don't have my car yet but getting one with the analog gauge cluster which does not have an engine temperature gauge so I have been researching engine/oil/coolant temperature topics.

Washed my RS3 at a no touch car wash and it steamed the whole way to work then sat there and steamed some more. Oil and temp guages generally in the center of the range...at least in 80s outdoor temps...

Default New RS3 owner

When I first noticed the steam , I was like WTF? But I wasn"t too worried because of my faith in VAG. I too have the analog gauge cluster but you can go through the computer pages, like right in between the MPH and RPM, that little screen. If you scroll you will see temp which from reading this thread is engine oil temp. I haven't seen it go over 210 yet. This was great info though because I knew the temp but WHAT temp is bad, or where is the over normal line drawn. Now I know. Thanks guys
