Default Need oil info

When I asked service rep what oil is in my 2015 1.8 A3 he replied Castrol 5w40. I forgot ask which Castrol oil. I have used Mobil 1 for many (20+) yrs so I am not up to date on other oils. My car (CPO) came with a 4 yr Maintenance contract so I will go along with Audi recommendations. I want to buy a couple of extra qts to take along with me on trips. So I need to know which specific oil to buy. I have been using 5w30 previously but SR said 5w40. Is Audi recommended oil 100% synthetic? I hope so.
I have been a Mercedes owner before and never had to add oil between 10,000 mi annual change.

Greasy, Audi/VW doesn't specify a base stock, they only refer back to their spec: 502.00 for the USA

As long as the bottle shows 502.00 somewhere on the label, you're covering your engine warranty in terms of viscosity and overall protection. Any oil with the 502.00 spec is acceptable. The two most common are going to be the Castrol 5W40 and the Mobil 1 0W40. I think you'll also see a newcomer at W*mart: Castrol 0W40

I'm getting an oil vac pump and doing my oil changes and filter in my garage. I was curious if anyone has used these kits with success? I imagine the engine should be hot when you put the vac line into the dip stick hole. Would the heat melt the plastic vac hose? I have to imagine the vac hose would not melt in there... Anyone?

Some of the plastic tubes melt easier than others.

I think you could purchase hi-temp poly tubing at Grainger, etc.

It's here! Yesterday I bought 0w40 (spec 502) foreign car formula @ WalMart. It was the ONLY weight that they had in this spec.

You probably want the engine cold to make sure all of the oil is in the oil pan. I bought the maintenance so I will not do my own until runs out but I will be doing my own as soon as that happens.

I bought a CPO car & inherited the balance of a 4 yr main. contract--almost 3 yrs. Just like to have a qt. of oil w/me when I travel.

Greasy kid, the best oils for our engines are low noack, lower saps as possible and if you can group v oils. All of these help in some degree with oil comsuption and carbon build on ours DI engines. I have a 2015 s3 with 10.3k miles with little to no oil comsuption, then again you would be spending a little more money out of pocket cause definately more expensive that any oil that you can find in wamart. Hope this helps.

Not that familiar w/oil details. Have had many D I engines. Up til now always used
Mobil 1. Never an oil burner. Go 10k/1 yr w/no adding.

Slightly on-topic question--I have AudiCare for my A3 but my service adviser suggested I get an oil change and tire rotation on the 10's (10k, 20k, 30k). While I agree on the tire rotation, I can't find anything official suggesting I need an oil change every 5k miles. Thoughts?
