Default Plunger in the oil filter?

I just changed the oil of my 2015 A3 following these instructions: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/aud...hange-2872371/

The instructions reference a black plunger located inside the oil filter housing.

The red line points to the black plunger.

I did not see such a plunger when I opened my oil filter housing. The last oil change was performed by my dealer, so I called them to ask if this black plunger is actually supposed to be there. They couldn't answer my question and they want me to bring the car to the dealer tomorrow, which I would like to avoid.

Does anyone know if that plunger is supposed to be there? Could the dealer have forgotten to replace it when they last did my oil change? What are the negative ramifications of not having that plunger?

Thanks in advance.

I was able to find the plunger. However, the plunger appears to be loose in the oil filter housing. Is that supposed to be that way? From a few videos/pictures I see online, it looks like the plunger is supposed to be affixed to the housing itself.
