My father owned three cars and all of them are Audi. I am also an Audi fan. I want to purchase 2015 A3 and did some research. I got a quota from AutoPriceShare program. I felt OK about the price. After I test drove both A3 and S3, I feel that S3 seems to be another good choice for me. Dealers give me two options and let me consider about it.
I am not an expert in car. So I want to listen some suggestions from you. Which option is better?
1. A3 2015 Sedan FWD TDI Prestige $37485(MSRP $41945)
2. S3 2015 Premium Plus $38539(MSRP $41995.0)

Better is subjective. If money is no object, the S3 is hands down the better performing and better equipped vehicle, but so is a 150k Porsche. You're getting over 6% off MSRP off the S3, which is decent, and over 10% on the A3 which isn't anything to write home about, but good as well. Are they also offering Audi loyalty incentives and/or Spring of Audi discounts? Make sure.
If you got the cash, go S3 all the way.

The A3 is the better choice for the majority of drivers, but how are you going to use the car. Do you live in a snow belt area with lots of hills where Quattro can help, and willing to spend extra dollars for the personal want of extra hp? Do you do lots of long distance driving on Cruise Control where the TDI is best?
No one Needs an S3 in their life, but if you can easily afford the trade-offs, and it's what you want, go for it.

Yeah, the fact you found and S3 for $38k is surprising. I test drove a TDI, didn't care for the performance really. I ended up in an A3 2.0 Prestige, but an S3 Prem Plus at the same price would have been a no brainer.

You'll need to be really into saving on fuel to appreciate a FWD over Quattro, even more so with the performance of the S3, almost an Apples to Oranges comparison between a Diesel and an S3
