Is it normal to have rather "rough" shifts with the DSG transmission? I notice that when I manually shift gears, when it goes from 3rd to 4th, its pretty abrupt. This morning the same type of abrupt shifts from 2nd to 3rd as well.

I'm new to VW world so I just want to make sure this isn't a problem or if I should have the dealership look at it.

S3 or A3?

If A3, test drive one and see if it shifts like yours. S3 probably harder to find on the lot.

Have the A3. When I let it automatically shift the gears as normal, its shifts as expected.

I get that on mine as well but it doesn't bother me too much. Keep in mind when you have it in auto, its main priority is to ensure comfort so it maybe smoothing the transition between gears. I only find it is abrupt when I'm shifting on my own but I'm shifting pretty abruptly myself.
