A5 coupe very high RPM's going downhill
My 2018 Audi A5 revs up past 4000rpm's as soon as start going down moderate to very steep hills; this happens without me even pressing on the gas. Otherwise, transmission works just fine.
It's been at the dealer for a week now and they say that it can't be reproduced at the shop. Dealership is in the flat part of town, I am trying to get them to take it to an area with hills.
Anyone else experiencing this? Does not seem normal to me...

Chances are the car is "engine braking"
As defined by Google: "Engine braking occurs when the retarding forces within an engine are used to slow down a motor vehicle, as opposed to using additional external braking mechanisms such as friction brakes or magnetic brakes."
People do this all the time in manual cars to slow the car down without applying the brakes. Down shifting to shoot revs higher slow the car down.

And, it’s charging the battery.

Audi A5 CVT did the same
Mine did the same after about a 300km drive I was driving up a hill that had a lot of fog. I noticed the engine revving itself upto 4000rpm whilst the speed was between 60 - 80 km and I had my foot off the pedal (I pointed this out to my wife and she was like what are you on about) . I drive a 2.0 tdi cvt so I never go passed 3000rpm especially at that speed. I also noticed that my oil temp was at about 60 degrees Celsius which was abnormal after having driven for so long. I concluded that the car was probably raising the oil temperature and maybe oxygen levels were low being so high after a 3 hour drive. The revving stopped when the oil temp got to around 80-90 and everything was normal after that and I continued driving for another 150km without any problems.

RPM Surge
—I had a similar problem affecting my 2019 S5SB.
— Using a GoPro I was able to document the events. The videos are available on YouTube entitled “2019 Audi S5 Downshifting” which is a mistitle entered by my my computer savvy friend. The RPMs surged, but the car did not speed up.
—5 visits to the local Audi dealer failed to resolve the problem. After only two days in the shop, Greenwich Audi replaced both ECM power supply relays and the RPM Surge has not recurred.
