Default 2008 vs 2009 A5 (vs 2010 A5)

Hey guys,

sorry for posting yet another question but here goes:

Friend of mine recently picked up a nice used 2009 A5 with pretty much all options except adaptive cruise control.

Now I ran into (not literally) a used 2008 A5 also Sline, nav, B&O etc.

I havent actually seen it yet but anyway my question is: do you guys know if there is an overview somewhere of the differences between the '08 and '09, like in options that arent there, or differences between the nav (cause the 2010 has a new kind of NAV software right, is there a difference between the 08 and 09 ones?), what things can I look at his A5 and say yeah thats the same and what will be different (if anything)

Now I'll have to decide if i want a used '08 3.2 with <5k miles or a new 10 2.0T for a few thousand (?) more. I'm kindda leaning towards the latter but Im just not certain yet cause the pricing of the options etc is still a bit vague to me. But I like the idea of (slightly) better fuel economy and just the whole "it's really NEW" thing haha

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here, but there shouldn't be much difference at all between a 2008 and 2009. The nav should be identical, except I think the 2008 did not have bluetooth voice control activated (button is there, but does nothing). You can turn that on with VAG-COM.

You'd certainly save on the initial drive-off depreciation hit if you went with a used '08 or '09. In the 2008, you'd get more HP from the 3.2L V6. In the 2010, you'd get more low end torque from the 2.0TFSI. It's really a matter of personal preference. I know many prefer the "smoothness" of the V6. I decided on the 2.0T because I could get more options for the same price (or the same options for less money), and the engine is very tunable. APR is getting 333 ft-lbs of torque from the A4 2.0TFSI, and I'd expect them to get the same or better from the A5 with the same engine. As a $600 software option, that's a pretty great upgrade option. There isn't much you can do to the 3.2L at all if you get bored with it (aside from upgrading to an S5).

I agree with wgosling completely in that you will save a lot of the "drive off the lot" drepeciation, but it all depends on what you want. Personally, i'm leasing the car so i'm obviously going to have to go new, and i decided to get a 2.0T 6 speed Premium Plus with B&O. The MSRP for the model i ordered is 39,500, and when i similiarly optioned out a 2009 3.2, the price difference was roughly $3200 (roughly 43,850) both excluding destination charge and tax and all that. So honestly, in my opinion, it depends on what you want to do, lease or finance a new A5.

Well, I got a new 2008 A5 3.2l, I would say go with new one. because I've read a lot of threads which are saying that first release of A5 (2008) had some issues with steering vibration around 50mph. then Audi changed control arms to fix the issue.

with new release you won't have to much bugs. so go with new one.

PS: A5 2009 got 3.2 engine (6 cylinder) which definitely works smoothly comparyng to 2.0 engine (4 cylinder) so may be you need to take that into account!
