Default About to pull the trigger on a 2013-2014 Audi S5. Need help.

Hello there.

As the title says I am about to buy an Audi s5. However, I am concerned about the reliability, since I am looking at 2 used s5 with mileage between 60, 000 and 70, 000. I did use the search forum feature but the results that came up were a bit old and the people that answer still had low miles on their s5. I would like to hear your opinion on the Audi s5 reliability and if you have had any major issues. Thanks you and have a good day.

I traded in my 2012 Special Edition S5 about a year ago with 28K mi on the clock. I loved that car...except for the transmission-no dual clutch then for the V8. Oh, the only two things that car had wrong under warranty were the thermostat and the hood strut! I dont drive much but I do drive pretty aggressively. All the Audi's I've had have been pretty solid and I felt they were built well...but maybe I just didn't keep em long enough mileage wise to find out!

Well, to put your mind at ease, if you can't find any post about things that can go wrong with the B8.5 S5's is because they are considered quite reliable. People who sign up with complaints about their cars outweigh those who sign up because they are happy and their cars are running flawlessly.

Before I decided to buy my S5, I have researched the web and various Audi forums about it. That 3.0L V6 Supercharged engine in our cars is quite reliable. Same goes for the S-tronic tranny. Here's an article in the Deutsch Parts website that talks about the V6 engines used in the B8.5 S5. They say the same thing. It is one of the most reliable S engines to date. Here's the article: https://www.shopdap.com/blog/post/co...-engines1.html

The article also identifies some stuff that is prone to wear and tear that can fail. They're all maintenance items as far as the later V6 Supercharged engines are concerned.

When buying a used newer model Audi, I suggest looking for a CPO'd car for that extra peace-of-mind since you do not really know how well the former owner or owners took care of it. Or,have it inspected by an independent Audi shop for a second opinion before deciding to purchase it.

I have had my 2013 S5 6-speed since summer of 2012 on European Delivery. No problems for anything that wasn't just a factory update. 30 mpg highway, 20 mpg in town. Ride is smooth on 265-30-20 MPS. This is not for sale; it is a gift for my Colorado grandkids when my Tesla arrives. 52k miles.

I can attest to very few things wrong with the B8.5 S5 platform. The only item that came up a few times with research for mine years ago was the water pump. Sure enough, mine needed to be replaced eventually. Other than that, it has been pretty bulletproof...just the normal wear and tear items. I would do yourself a favor. Pick up a model still under warranty or a nice CPO vehicle. Both will be covered and give you piece of mind for a while working out any issues.
