Default Audi custom rims

Just purchased 2014 A5 Quattro AWD and would like to dress it up with custom rims. Heard from other Audi owners who indicated that custom rims do not work well as it effects the tire pressure readings. Any truth to this? Also would appreciate and pics of cars with custom rims to get ideas. Thanks in advance.

not sure about the pressure reading part but just make sure the rims' offset and width work for your car. My S5 is supposed to be from 33-35

Custom rims most probably do not have the pressure transmitters in the valves that is needed for the tire pressure reading to work. I had this issue on my previous A6 with after market rims and no transmitters. Got a warning every time I started the car.

Other than that custom rims will work fine. Just make sure the rim size will fit your car as lax0307 pointed out.

BTW. You can buy pressure transmitters and install in after market wheels. But my Audi dealer wanted more than 100$ a piece.....

A 2014 Audi A5 sold into the USA market does NOT have in-wheel sensors making tire swaps all that much better.

TPMS sensors are swappable/replaceable. It's a sensor with a built-in valve stem. MOST aftermarket wheels are TPMS compatible and you simply swap the sensors off the OEM wheels to the new rim. Very easy. Of course that doesn't matter based on what uberwgn posted, just a future fyi for anyone who reads this thread.

Here's a photo of a sensor but for an Infiniti. An Audi sensor would look similar. The stem fits through the valve stem hole in the wheel and is held on by a nut and the valve stem cover on the other side.
