Default Does parking brake work while driving?

I use a little trick sometimes when I am going a bit too fast and pass a cop or suddenly see one get on the highway behind me.

Instead of tapping the brakes to slow down (which is easily seen because the brake lights go on briefly), I pullup on the parking brake (keeping my thumb on the release button). This quickly slows the car without tipping off the cop.

Can the same thing be done with the electronic parking brake? I am guessing it can't.

Anyone ever try this?

They mention the capability in the manual, but in the context of emergency situations. I'd be concerned about the long-term consequences of doing it regularly.

I experimented with this one day. Just clicking the parking brake button up like when you are really parking did nothing. But holding the button up for a couple of seconds gave a very different result. Imagine driving into a lake. It's that abrupt. No more gentle trimming of the speed with the good old fashioned parking brake lever. This system is definitely for emergencies only.

It's too little too late. He should have clocked your speed already.

Why don't you just down shift, like I do? Smoothly, of course. Messing around with e-brake(especially this version) can cause more problems than getting a ticket.

I will have to apparently.

It was quicker however using the manual parking brake than downshifting in the A4. It also had a more predictable slow down with the parking brake.

Of course another option is to never drive over the speed limit............................................. .................................................. ...................yeah, right.
