hard start and white smoke after a head gasket replacement
#2
Sounds like they didn't do it right. White smoke is an indication of coolant entering the combustion chamber. We're not talking about the normal white smoke on cold mornings, that's from condensation forming in the exhaust overnight. It's not very dense and wispy. Coolant in your exhaust produces thick white billowy clouds out the tailpipe. Sometimes it'll go away after the car warms up and the metals expand, better sealing the head gasket. You can smell it too.
There could be multiple causes but they all lead back to a bad repair job.

Agree with Ape Factory-they didn't fix it OR the gasket was not the problem....possible crack in cyl head or engine block. Of course this assumes it wasn't the FIRST start after the "repair", which I doubt is the case.
