Quattrings-
I am finding out that dealers are back ordered in San Diego on A5 and S5 and want huge price over MSRP for these hot new cars. If you were unable to get one, what car would be a good alternative?

Re: Dude, just buy a damn plane ticket and be done with it.
Cool well I have time to make my purchase decision so its not a rush.
Hopefully additional allocations will help with demand and bring prices back to reality :-)
This happens with every new model year for a new car. I do need to test drive the RS4 since today I had the chance to drive the new AMG C63 and it was wicked fast! Nice but I love the interior in the RS4 so much better than the AMG C63. The seats are a lot nicer and more comfortable. Also in spite of the amazing hand built C63 AMG engine and great looks, the interior was not that fancy or great for a car that costs more than 60k loaded. I did like the CL63 a lot more but it costs a fortune and for that price, the R8 has it beat in every way.
I am planning to take a new RS4 on a test drive next week or so- I do see more deals on these than on the S5 or A5 since the RS4 has been out a while longer and can get a better deal so will see. Hard to decide though:
Audi RS4, Mercedes C63 AMG, BMW M3
All solid great cars will see once I have driven the RS4 and new M3 :-)
There is no way in hell that I will pay over MSRP or sticker for any car. That is just plain foolish to throw money away. The real wealthy people have brains and know better to be patient and get a good deal than to blow money.

Cool thanks
I also like the Infiniti G37 coupe a lot but its really an expensive Nissan and everyone has one in California! They are SO common!
But then again every other Dick and Jane drives a BMW as well and I am seeing tons of Audi A4 coupes on the road so I guess California is just full of expensive cars!
If I don't buy a car this year, I may wait to see how I like the upcoming 2009 Audi A4 sedan in 2.0T format for a daily driver. That can probably be chipped as well for a lot less than the S5 or RS4.

Audi TT 2.0T quattro...
... getting ready to order one actually since an A5 2.0T quattro doesn't seem likely to land stateside before September (my current lease expiration).
But there's tons of A5's in dealerships around LA. What's the problem?

Sure there are deals on the RS4 but...
The RS4 is getting outdated in a hurry. Looks wise and the underpinnings. The B7 platform was a minor update to the B6 platform which was launched around 2002 (around then). I had a B6 (2005) S4 and it was a good car, but the handling of my S5 is just so much better. The RS4 has that extra hp and torque which might disguise the age of the platform. But with all the new audi's out or coming out soon the RS4 just looks old.
I don't know anything about the Merc but if you can't get a hold of an S5 the C63 or M3 are good choices.

Just finished 1,000 miles and two weeks in a Quattro 2.0 TFSI S-Tronic coupe
Not blinding but excellent acceleration, drove beautifully in some really heavy rainstorms and got over 36 MPG averaging between 60 and 70 MPH. Averaged close to 25 MPG in urban driving. One very sporty and comfortable car to own in an oil crisis.
