Default A5 launch control?

Does anyone know if the A5s have launch control? Or just simple smash brake+throttle and release?

The A5's do have launch control because they have the s-tronic (dual clutch) gear box whilst the S5 has the trip-tronic (ZF) gear box with a "quasi" launch control.
The ZF transmission employs software to balance the brakes against the torque converter being stalled up with the engine held at a predetermined RPM to provide the "quasi" launch control but not as aggressive as a clutch-dump launch in a manual or dual clutch.

Is there any potential damage that using the B+T technique could cause to the drivetrain? I assume the software won't allow that, but would hate to blow something out just because I'm curious and want to try it once.

The s5 has launch control, not similar to the usual S-Tronic where it drops the clutch, its more of a brake torque and then adjusting the shift points etc to optimize 0-60 times.

How is it engaged/used? I have an S5 and haven't figured this out.

turn the stability control off, firmly press brake pedal with left foot, floor gas pedal with right foot wait till rpms stabilize at 3k rpm and let go of brake pedal. Make sure car is in dynamic too!

The manual implies that it can be hard on the components (not surprising), but it doesn't say any damage would occur. See page 100-101 of the manual, which says: "When accelerating using the launch control program, all vehicle parts are subject to heavy loads. This can lead to increased wear."
