Sorry I did not get a notification there was a reply in the thread. Stankia beat me to it. In the R3 it is also used to measure your speed. You can set it to ignore radar signals below a certain speed, so if you're only traveling at a slow speed it won't signal to radar. It gives a single beep and displays q-ride, for quiet ride, when it detects a radar source and you have it in quiet mode.

You're welcome. Here is the link to the users manual. I like to read these before I buy most things, including cars
A youtube search for Uniden R3 or R1 will show you the detection range most are getting. It's impressive. I came from a V1 and I miss my arrows but love the detection range for the price.

Laser? Ain't no detector gonna protect you from that. Too many laws on "jammers" to make it worth the install.

Bullcrap. I just used a V1 for 1,000 miles, it was excellent at letting me know I was in an area where there was radar and to slow down. It did not fail me once. Go to the website and read about how many times and features they have upgraded for the last 10 years... It's got junk band discrimination now. You know, like the stuff shooting out both ends of our S5 (properly optioned of course).

The V1 still has great hardware but their software is so far behind from what's currently out there. Unless you wanna buy an additional Bluetooth module and always keep it connected to your phone.

You may think it is a good one, but my brother who lived with me for 4 years had one and complained about it non stop. Plus, it does not have GPS capability, meaning it rings for everything! Doors, falses, etc. That alone makes it not worth it. The moment you move on to a radar that can lock out falses while still being reliable, you will never go back. Ever!
Read about GPS and falses for the V1 at the V1 site. Mine NEVER rings for falses... Here is a link for that:

I could also say that I sure love the V8 engine in those S5's - but wait - that was many years ago, we have moved on.

I'm sure it's probably a little outdated by now, but I've been using the Escort RedLine since 2012. I haven't had a speeding ticket since then. ***knock on wood***

Uh huh, notice how I didn't say anything about the one you have, you are mis-informed.

I have used GPS and non GPS radars in the same time period in different vehicles. A false alarm lock out does not affect a real threat. In my area of North Texas, all LE use Ka band radar so there's no reason to even worry about K bands like 10 years ago. Detectors are useless against laser for the most part too.
That whole ploy of Valentine saying they don't offer "this and that" because "this and that" result is rubbish. A company is supposed to offer what people want to buy, not what they think is "right to sell or practical." The advantages of a properly built GPS detector outweigh the disadvantages of a similar counterpart without the feature.
That's like Audi saying they won't offer a line of SUVs because they don't think most people will use them as such (most really don't), and because they take too much gas. Last I checked, Audi isn't buying their own products. Offer what people want and mark up the price if need be. Let the paying consumer make the decision. Hence why every decent manufacturer is popping out a SUV from Kia to Rolls Royce and Lamborghini.
Keep in mind I never send the V1 is horrible. I just sent it's out of date in a growing market.

I have an Escort Passport Max with GPS and regular updates.
The reason for gps is for the speed limits , location of stop light cams and if on app the location of speed traps.
The Max is better than my previous X9500 at ignoring false alarms. Also has no x function which helps.
I am hesitant to go to 360 version at $649 with no benefit on distance or sensitivity.
