Default Car & Driver Feb. 2018 Comparo of A5SB, BMW 430I xDrive & Kia Stinger

Car and Driver, February issue comparing the three coupes is out and the A5 Sportback soundly beats them.

#1 Audi Sportback +++++++Sweet handling, sweet engine, sweet transmission, great brakes, supermodel looks.
-----------Tight interior, the tires are an unfair advantage.
======Smart engineering will always be state of the art.
#2 a Tie
Kia Stinger AWD +++++++Muscle-car presence, roomy, bargain priced.
------------Not that quick, lousy outward visibility, big enough to overwhelm it own chassis.
=======One small step for Kia, one giant leap for KiaKind.

#2 Tie, BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupe
+++++++Great engine, easy going interior, Occasional hints of BMW brilliance.
------------Unfathomable steering, not sticky enough in the corners, a long and stupid name.
=======Fills a market niche instead of striving to reach ambitious goals.

A5 Sportback did have a tire advantage.

Can you say that Kia has come up to BMW standards or that BMW has dropped to meet Kia; or some of both?

I would say both. Kia has really upped their game picking up several German engineers and the BMW is overdue for a refresh.

Interesting that we got a "1" for cargo space. I was surprised to find that the trunk area (cargo mats fit) was the same as that of the 4, though.

That's what Kia wanted with the Stinger, though. For those exact people to jump ship.

I mean, that's total bull**** to give this car a 1 for cargo space. They do this a lot in these "comparo's" to make the final scores closer artificially
