Drove the RS5 Sportback Yesterday - Underwhelmed :(

As far as the hatch vs. trunk — for the last 37 years I have owned nothing but 2 door hatchback vehicles and I didn’t know how well I would like a trunk again with this car. After 13 months of ownership, I do not miss the hatch at all. I find the trunk lid seals better, is much quieter and the (sense of) security it offers more than makes up for the “fastback look.”

The Sportback is a terrific looking car and If I was not fortunate enough to have an X5 for hauling duties, I would be looking hard at the Sportback. As things are, I am glad my S5 Coupe is not called upon to haul anything or anyone but me and the Ms's.

Mine has her own TTS, loves the S5 and will drive it whenever she can, which is hardly ever. LOL

This is why I got a Sportback. 3 people with 3 bikes. All locked up when we go have a bite to eat after. With this car I can have my cake and eat it too.

Only my experience, but it seems to me I've bought a coupe at approximately 10 yearly intervals over the past 50 years. EVERY time, I can't wait to get 4 doors again. None of the coupes has been an enduring favourite, unlike several sedans. It has less to do with passengers (though that has been a hassle) than just general access to the back seat for stowing stuff, cleaning etc.
I actually consider the Avants to be the perfect form factor and would love one. Mrs M loves coupes and dislikes wagons. So, a sportback is a good compromise. Over the years some cars that ticked most boxes didn't have folding rear seats - that became a deal-breaker several times.
But I have to say, the MB C Series coupe looks magnificent and avoids all the styling glitches of the sedan IMHO.

Also agree that from a styling angle the only way I'd get a C63 is in coupe form. The hips just look too good compared to the sedan.
That's awesome! I almost forget that the RS5 SB not only has the four doors but it has a trunk/hatch area as big or bigger than many small CUVs and things like the Panamera! It really is a 'right-sized' Panamera.
