Mileage on your new delivery ?
I’m curious what one should expect for the mileage on a new, factory ordered A5. I plan on keeping this vehicle a long time and I want it broken in consistent with the owner’s manual. I noticed when test driving vehicles that Audi salespeople tend to ignore the break-in period. They want to demonstrate acceleration, etc. Therefore, I am a little concerned about whether my new vehicle was used in test drives to prospective owners. It’s been at the dealer over a week. So…., I would expect my new, factory ordered A5 Cabriolet to have less than 15 miles on it. In your opinions, am I being unreasonable to expect mileage this low if it wasn’t used on test drives? How many miles did your vehicle have on it at delivery if it was factory ordered?
I realize there are different opinions on how to break in a vehicle. I’d prefer to limit this discussion to expectations regarding mileage at delivery on a new, factory direct order. My vehicle has arrived, and I pick it up on Thursday afternoon. I then take it directly to the XPEL shop. There are lots of opportunities for rock chips here in Colorado. For those interested, it’s a 2019 A5 Prestige Cabriolet, Navarra Blue Metallic, Nougat Brown interior with Luxury package.

I want to say I remember another thread about this where typically A / S cars would arrive with less then 10 while RS cars tend to arrive with around 50 due to those being tested on the factory test track or something like that after they are built.

Most are around 6-13 miles however, I have seen 30-40 on new cars arriving from port (it's rare but I've seen it) and A8s, R8s, and RS models can have 50+ miles when new.

Mileage on my last few new Audi's:
2018 RS5, 70 miles;
2018 S5, 77 miles;
2013 RS5, 73 miles;
2102 S5, 37 miles;
2009 A5, 98 miles;
2006 A6, 18 miles;
Draw your own conclusions, but none were the worse for the beginning mileage.

My car went from port to dealer for about 4 days, until I picked it up. It had 32 miles on it.

I snapped this photo just as soon as they removed the protective, shipping cover, as it came off the delivery truck. When I picked it up 2 days later, the mileage was the same.

Our A5 SB had 7 miles when we picked it up last week. On the other hand, the R8 is driven by the factory as a test, so will have at least 50 miles at delivery. In any event the type of driving that sales people do during demos would not hurt a car at all. These days "break in" is not like it was a few decades ago, and in fact applies more to the rest of the drivetrain than the engine.
