RS5 US Pricing
#11
If the numbers are correct for the US RS5 then comparing the MAX price (all options in):
USA
TTRS - $78,650 / RS5 $85,000
(free of taxes and fees)
In this scenario I think the RS5 is much more car for the price than the TTRS... with that said, when you add taxes and other fees the price difference is not small.
And if you are trying to make people spend money, nothing better than have different offerings for different pockets. Just look at Mercedes...

The reality is that in the US, the RS5 is being sold at an excellent price. As you go up the model hierarchy ladder, you get an increasing level of available options (same for all the German manufacturers). So there is a relatively limited option pool for the MQB based RS models vs MLB models.
The fully optioned comparison is:
USA
TT-RS $78,650 RS5 $85,000 (RS5 about 10% more)
Germany
TT-RS €91,000 RS5 €126,000 (RS5 about 38% more)
Of course, not all options are likely to be available. I know such things are relative to each market, but the price difference between the TT RS and RS5 models in the US is ridiculously low, and would be getting the order in for the RS5 pretty quickly! If I was looking at a TT RS or an S5 at the moment, I'd be tempted to buy an RS5 with just a Sport differential and pay the very modest premium. Resale time would be interesting, too.
Traditionally, RS production has limited capacity, so they had restricted model ranges and applied quotas to the North American markets for obvious reasons. But the B9 and RS4 are using "normal" production engines - the EA839 is going into the C8 S6/S7, the new Porsche Macan and is already in the Panamera S. And the new head of Audi Sport is Michael-Julius Renz, who was head of Audi's sales division in China, which is Audi's largest market. Maybe they are going mainstream with RS models now?
Sonoma Green is a standard option colour everywhere it has been released, can't imagine why it would suddenly become an Exclusive colour for the US. Nardo is the "base" colour, ie no cost.
