Last week, had the chance with few cars on the road (sub zero temps + snow) to do the 170 foot climb from the main road @ 870 ft above sea level to our house at 1040 ft. Twists and turns. My Conti A/S DWS (20s) are in their 3rd winter and have 19,000 miles on them. I accelerated in Dynamic/Sport mode, and pulled up a pretty step, twisting hill getting to 50 mph from a zero standing stop, with no sliding, spinning or under/over steer. What an amazing testament to Audi Quattro, but also these tires on which the "S" is still clearly visible. Won't begin to describe the icy slush gunk that I brought into the garage after this little escapade. Nonetheless, don't think you can go wrong with either the Michelins or the Contis.

For me, we spend so much money on our cars - the most important part is the only part that should touch the road (unless you're doing something reallllly wrong).
I always keep a pair of winter tires, and a pair of summer tires. Proper weapon for proper season.
it just makes sense.

Tire choice
The OEM size for S5 w/ black optic is 265/30 20, which only has summer tires available, RS5 uses 275/30 20, and there are all seasons for that, including the PS AS3+, just no the PS AS4 yet

I have after market Vorsteiner wheels that are 10" wide so am able to fit the 285/30/20 tires. Prior to that I ran the Michelin A/S 3+ in 275/30/20...also a great all season tire.

So, I have had now the Michelin A/S4 for a few days already and I’m positively surprised on how compliant the ride is with these.
Thank you all again your suggestions.

Just to comment for those with no storage space, Some of the tire stores as well as higher-end European vehicle repair shops offer tire storage as well as seasonal swap service. There is a fee, but it is cheaper than renting space at a self-storage facility and taking tires back & forth and doing the swap yourself.
Just something to consider.
