S5 SB or 440i GC?

One other thing to consider from a member of the bimmer posts.
If you live in a cold climate with ice or snow, do not get the 4 series. The side windows are independent of the frame. When you open your door, they lower 1/8 of an inch so you can open your door. If your car is iced from bad weather, window can not go down and you can't open the door. I will never buy a car with that feature again, hence I will never even consider a 4 series because of this issue.

I can confirm that the Sportback windows are in fact frameless. This icing over seems like it could be a legitimate hassle. I live in the Pacific NW though, and park in the garage, so less of a threat to me. My current rig (BMW i3) has frameless windows and I've never had a problem through 3 winters.

my wife has a 2015 MINI with frameless windows that slightly drop when the door is opened. It's never been remotely an issue thru 2 winters of trips to the Austrian Alps and lots of snow accumulating on overnight stays.
hoping the A5 is the same.

Do the A5/S5 window roll down 1/8 of an inch (or any amount) to open the door though? It sounded like the issue with the BMW was that if iced up and the window can't roll down the 1/8 of an inch because of the ice, it would prevent the door from opening.

All cars with frameless windows have this feature now and there is zero issue with them. I've had 20 years of Porsches with this feature and 20 years of Boston winters. I've never heard of anyone not able to get into their car because of it.

You didn't mention it as an option, but I'm bringing it up anyways. Unless you need serious rear seat space, the BMW to get is the m240. That car is a hoot and a half, and you can get one with Michelin SS instead of the blasted run flats. Granted it looks a bit puny compared to the 440 or S5, but it's got it where it counts, and it's still quite practical for everyday use. The interior isn't quite as nice as the 440, but the 440 isn't all that great either, and it's around $10k less expensive. I agree with everyone else that the Audi wins the tech, awd, and interior quality award.
