Well really you’re both right. As of a year ago when he posted that, Castrol was the provider. It came in 1 liter bottles from Audi and was marked Castrol. But later in the year it switched to Mobil. It now comes in 1 qt bottles with the VW/Audi markings. The part number changed too.

Instead of using the specialty oil (in my case, 502 or 504 rated 5W40), what would really be the detriment if I just use regular 5W40 Mobil 1 or Castrol and changing every 7500mi or so?

It's not that it's speciality oil, it's just that you need oil which meets the correct specification. If I remember correctly, the MY18 2.0L engine is VW504 or VW502 specification, which means you can use 0w40/5w40 or 0w30/5w30 oil.

For example, if you want to use Mobil1 European Formula 0w40, that will work because it meets the VW502 specification: https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/...il-1-fs-0w-40/

If you want to use a 30 weight oil, you can use Mobil1 5w30 ESP: https://www.mobil.com/en/lubricants/...l-1-esp-5w-30/

There is no need to reduce your oil change interval, the only thing you need to do is use the correct specification and then stick to the 10k/12mo intervals. Of course there are other manufacturers that make oil that meets the specification, but I used Mobil since you referenced it in your original post.

With all that said, the VW504 spec is quite good stuff (used in RS 3, TT RS, RS 5), and it should provide additional fuel economy and less emissions, so there is no reason not to use it.

The one thing you do not want to do is use VW508 (0w20) oil in a car that specifically calls for VW504 or VW504 specification.

Hope this helps...

I have a 2022 Audi Q3, wonder can I use the pump you are using? can I use it for my 2015 ML 350, 2012 BMW 528i Xdrive, and 2013 Hyundai sonata? Where are you purchased? did you insert the pipe oil sticker? looks bigger.

Thanks

Frank

Not sure about Castrol Edge vs. Liqui Moly, but these are two more oils that rate high in the VW 508-509 spec. The Mobil 1 Esp 0w20 (508-509) is hard to find in 5 Liter jugs.

Used this exact oil for the last oil change at 5700 miles on my '21 SQ5 S/B. The Blackstone Labs UOA results were very favorable. Switched to Ravenol 0W20 for this OCI, as it was on-sale through Blauparts.
