Document the time, date, location and take photos, keep receipts and look for muni reimbursement
Many municipalities will reimburse you for cost of repairs as a result of massive pothole damage.
Search the mid-atlantic forum for discussions leading in reimbursement.
Maybe that will help take the sting out.

Yea, our roads are a mess. All the Tollway $$ must be going inot the new toll plazas
that seem to be rebuilt every year or so. Must not be any money left to fix the roads.
Depending on where it happened, IDot and cook County are paying to cover damages but you need good documentation as to where and when, and probably need pics too.
