Default ‘05 allroad 2.7T clutch issue

I just had a problem with my ‘05 allroad, 6 speed. No issues with clutch prior to this point. Parked, started the car, car shuddered with clutch depressed and in first gear position... I immediately instinctively put the shifter in neutral and the shuddering stopped. But then I couldn’t put the car in any gear. I shut the car down and was able to move the shifter into all gears except reverse. I then started the car again and the same thing happened with the shifter in 1st gear position. Similar symptoms all around. I then shut the car down again. Then re-started and I was able to shift into gear with no issues and drove 1 km home. I tested again at home by turning the car off and starting again and was able to start with shifter in gear and shift into different gears with no issues. this seems more like an electrical issue to me than a mechanical one. Clutch switch? Any other possibilities?

Some folks have reported similar symptoms with a pressure plate or throw out bearing issue.

Update to this: The day after this first problem a different thing occurred. I started the car with the clutch pedal depressed and shifter in first and it jumped. I immediately shut the car off. Clutch pedal out, clutch pedal back in, car started normally and was able to drive 60 km with zero issues. I have since not driven the car however. All mechanics I’ve spoken to have said this a mechanical issue. One suggested that possibly a spring on the pressure plate broke free from wear and caused the initial problem, then fell into the bell housing.
