The 04AR4.2 just came to dealer's lot for my order
After a long wait, I was called in to see the car today. The AR is new to me regarless the model year. I was told the 4.2 price would be about 55k. And I thought that was resonable by comparing BMW or MB. I was a little surprised to see the bottom line MSRP is less than 51k with all options aside than NAV.system(did'nt do me too much good in my previous cars). There is 03 silver parked side by side with my car, and I could'nt tell any difference between these two cars. A couple of things may help for those who want to buy Ar: 1. EPA 16/21 verse 16/22. 2. 0-60 6.9 verse 7.3 with Tiptronic. 3. Curb weight 4277 verse 4233. I'm going to pick the car next Tuesday. I will give my input in this forum.( which the dealer said the bs talk ).

huh? i could barely understand your post...
help me out here:
1. are you saying the car you ordered for $55K is now $51K?
2. are you comparing the 2004 allroad 4.2 to the 2003 allroad 2003?
3. what exactly did your dealer say about this forum?

Re: huh? i could barely understand your post...
I'm sorry that I didn't make myself clear for the subject. Here are the point by point to your questions-
1. when I placed my order, the dealer didn't know the real price. I was given the estimate which was about 55k.
2.yes, the 04 4.2 and 03 2.7t.
3.I mentioned a few problems to him that I read from this forum, pointing out the AR Goodyear tires as one of them( 4.2 equiped those tires ). The salesman did'nt like what I said.

Re: I'm looking forward to hearing from your information in the very near future.

Cool. Congrats.
You have to let us know how that beast is once you take delivery.
I'm starting to feel like my car is really old now with people taking delivery of '04s!! I took deliver of mine in Dec 2000.
Here's to a flawless PDI and a big F U to the salesguy that thinks the entire internet is BS talk.

Having had 3 Audi 4.2's and now my first 2.7T, I have a question. . .
Point of clarification just in case: all the 4.2 V8 equipped Audis I have owned were automatic transmissions. The last two were A6's with 5spd tiptronics.
The 4.2 engine from a "sound" perspecitve sounds better than the 2.7T in my 03 allroad. Perhaps better said, I personally like the sound of the 4.2 V8 better than the 2.7T V6 but I hardly think the V6 sounds bad.
My 1997 A8 had the worst transmission -- 5spd non-tip; sing along with me "a hunting we will go, a hunting we will go. . .hi ho the dairy-o what gear will we go?" The 2000 and 2001 tiptronics were much improved but had "turbo lag" and they would not hold first gear unless the pedal was floored. The manumatic -- for me -- was unsatisfying; the shift happened like a dubbed movied, the lips and the words were never in synch even if it was just a fraction of a second.
I test drove an S6 '02 -- and the tip problems were gone. Drove an '03 tip allroad the problems were just like the '01 A6 4.2.
Realizing the passion that may be unleashed by this comment: why on earth would you want a less-quick version of the allroad (also realizing that to achieve this comparison it is necessary to pit a manual transmission 2.7T version against the auto 4.2).
OK the power actuated steering column in my three 4.2 equipped Audis was very cool and I am certain the 4.2 with its 18" lower profile tires may turn in better -- but I don't get it. A steeply discounted S6 Avant is available this last year only and they ARE out there right now. Why not go for the ***** out performance that the S6 clearly has over the allroad 4.2 or go for somewhat similar performance in the 2.7T w/6spd?
I can't figure out how they're going to get the extra premium for the 4.2.
I am an Audi fan, I bleed (well, almost) little concentric rings -- but I can't get excited about a V8 knowing that there is an unchipped virtually identical vehicle out there with a V6 that has factory published 0-100kph times that are better (I know .1 second) -- especially when the 6spd is so much fun to shift!
Help me understand the attraction for the $$$.
Did anyone who plunked down $50large test drive a 2.7T w/6spd first?
My every possible optioned 03 allroad with bigger tires and full paint (aftermarket, USA unfortunately) was MSRP'd at south of $52K and I got it for just about $48K -- including that outragously priced Audi telephone.
Thanks for not chewing me a new one, hopefully.

Re: The 04AR4.2 just came to dealer's lot for my order
Congrats, I just ordered my '04 AR4.2, and got $2000 off sticker already!
Can't wait till it comes and I can trade in my 2001 540i wagon.
