Default 4.2

I haven't gotten the 2.7T 6spd yet, I was wondering about the 4.2 Anyone have one or any comments? I did own an 02 S6 and got the Cayenne, DumbAss I know, so the 2.7 has me a little leary with respect to the fun quotient.

Default We have a 4.2 and love it-but for fun the 2.7 6sp would probably fit the bill better...

I tend to stay stock- so the 4.2 is great for me. If I wanted the most speed and performance a 2.7 has the most potential (IMHO) in the 6 sp version. More tuning options are available and its the fastest allroad to begin with. My suggestion would be if you want to stay stock try the 4.2- if you want the fastet, baddest allroad you can have get a 2.7 stick.

I've had my un-modded (except for Nokians) 6-speed 2.7T for about six weeks, and it is unquestionably the best, most enjoyable car I've owned since I started buying cars in 1971.

My wife, who is usually noncommittal about cars, loves it, too, and my twin daughters, who will be driving in a year, can't wait to get their hands on it. (Slim chance: I've been preparing them for being allowed only to drive our other car, a '98 A4Q 5-speed -- not a bad consolation prize, eh?)

If you want fun, polish, quality and all the other intangibles in one package, "skip the Tip" and go directly to the 6-speed. You won't be disappointed.

Default Now, if only Audi made 4.2 stick.....

That's the route i was going to go when i was shopping for an allroad. I got the 2.7 stick, and i couldn't be happier with it. I haven't driven the 4.2, but if i had to guess, i would say it could have been faster than the 2.7 6 speed, if it had a stick version... plus no turbos to worry about...

Default Re: 4.2 -- one thing the 2.7T does not have. . .

. . .is the sound of the 4.2 engine. I think Audi could sell as many 4.2 6spd allroad's as they could screw together (or weld as the case may be) -- with a few 30 second commercials and some magazine and newspapaer ads thrown in for good measure.

There is nothing like a 4.2 engine winding up through the gears -- I have owned three such Audis, an A8 and two A6's and have test driven that wonderful new S4 4.2 stick.

Of course, when you are sitting there in your otherwise identical allroad 4.2 hearing that wonderful sound as you red line each gear (as the automatic will pretty much do) -- close your eyes, or at least don't look in the rear view mirror, 'cause in your moment of sonic rapture that is when the otherwise identical looking allroad 2.7T 6spd will pass you by (and that driver will have about $5 grand more in his/her pocket to boot!)

All together now Waaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!

I go to sleep every night and pray (and dream) that Audi will reward the faithful in the final year of production of the allroad with a 6spd manual 4.2 allroad (with FACTORY) H sport sway bars and RS 6 wheels and Ultra High perofmance tires.

I do I do I do!

Then I wake up, check on Audiworld and -- guess what? No such luck.

Damn this traffic jam!
