60mph shudder UPDATE!! Any advice?
I went on an extensive drive just to isolate the problem. switching it into fourth gear does not elliminate the shudder but only masks it due to other noise/vibration/harshness associated with a lower gear/more rpm's. At 60mph, the shudder is most obvious, at which time i switched to neutral and its still there. Hopefully that eliminates the engine and drivetrain. Does that isolate it to axle or wheel/tire?
Now, when i accelerate from say 50-70mph, there is wobble in the steering wheel. The greater the acceleration through the 60mph mark, the greater the wobble. Could this be tire balance related?

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. The quattro A6 and allroad are extremely sensitive to wheel balance. I was only able to get rid of vibrations with very careful wheel balancing. Do not use the standard high speed balancing machines. Pay extra for the Hunter GSP9700 - find a tire dealer who has one and an operator that knows what he's doing. It can take up to an hour and a half for a set of four wheel but darn well worth it.

www.hunter.com - use their dealer locator to find a local shop.
I had a set of new tires balanced twice by the shop that sold them and once by another without curing the problem.
An hour at the Hunter equipped shop and I had a new tire to replace the badly out of round one, and a nice smooth ride.

Just today I went throught the same thing, a reblance with wights palced center and out on the inside edge of the rim. but there is still a little shake, like I had with the old tires. Most noticeable in long right turns?

Re: my dealer's answer was uneven wear on tires.
Rector Audi move my fronts to the back and the shudder is gone, at least the wobble @ the steering wheel is gone. Haven't really try it since service, but on the way home, it's definitely gone. Hector @ Rector was positive that's the cause.

More thoughts
so the drivetrain can be eliminated because it would pass through the same rotational speed at lower speeds with lower gears. And because it occurs in neutral it has to be a problem at the four corners. So what remains? wheels/tires. How about axles, cv joints, tie rods etc. thanks
