Default Alignment question

The allroad is in need of some new shoes, but it also needs an alignment. Is it better to do the alignment first, or to get the new tires then do the alignment? Does it even matter?

Default Re: Alignment question

Better to do the alignment after fitting the new tyres. That's what I've been told for both my AR and Porsche 993. By the way, alignment for the AR is both as complicated and expensive as my 993.

Default alignment is covered....

under audi advantage warranty- 4 yr/50k. do it after mounting and balancing tires/wheels. dealer should cover alignment unless obvious signs of damage...bent rims, rods, arms and so on.

actually wheel balancing is covered too but not for new tires..only as part of routine wear coverage. besides if the dealer doesn't have the hunter road force gadget, wouldn't want them to do it anyway.

if you are out of warranty or need alignment as a result of damage, charge should be 150-200.
cheers

What will the dealer do for the $180 that your local alighment shop can't/won't? Is it worth paying more than twice as much?

Default Good question.

I just had an alignment done at Wheel Works in the SF Bay Area, after rotating and balancing the tires. Seems like everything rides fine now, and the little wobble I felt in the steering wheel between 70-75 has abated; I sure would love to know if people think Wheel Works or any similar outfit couldn't handle an alignment job, and why.

FYI- The normal alignment charge was $120. I got a $30 discount since the whole job ended up taking 4 hours.
