allroad as ambulance, sick kid story :-(
Well, our holiday travels continue but in an unexpected way.
The week before christmas, our little 2 yr old got sick with a cold. it went away, but about 3 days ago the little one started to walk with a limp. It kept getting worse, and by yesterday morning when we got up she didn't want any weight on that leg at all. We decided to take a run through the emergency room to get things checked out before driving home. As there was no brusing or swelling we really weren't sure what was wrong.
After spending all day in the ER yesterday, they determined it was likely a viral infection causing inflamation in the fluid in the joints in her hip. (Toxic Synovitis) If we are lucky, it should go away in a couple of days, But, she doesn't seem any better yet today, so the doc has checked in and we have decided to transfer her up to UW Madison and the hospital there which is better equipped to deal with orthopedic problems in kids.
Up there they will tap her hips to drain some fluid to rule out a bacterial sepsis infection. Once that is ruled out, we can hit the road for the long drive home.
